Three of the passages I read regularly in the Bible for perspective and hope are…
Hebrews 12:1-2
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne. (New Living Version)
James 1:2-4
My fellow believers, when it seems as though you are facing nothing but difficulties see it as an invaluable opportunity to experience the greatest joy that you can! For you know that when your faith is tested it stirs up power within you to endure all things. And then as your endurance grows even stronger it will release perfection into every part of your being until there is nothing missing and nothing lacking. (The Passion)
James 1:12
If your faith remains strong, even while surrounded by life’s difficulties, you will continue to experience the untold blessings of God! True happiness comes as you pass the test with faith, and receive the victorious crown of life promised to every lover of God! (The Passion)
I often wonder why we go through so much! There are times when I cry out to God, saying, ‘surely I’ve been through enough’! As I read the word of God, there are no promises that life will be smooth sailing and free from pain. However, I believe that was God’s original plan and I know one day things will be made right!
When I reflect on my life, I see lots of rock bottom. Oh so much! But I love that it’s not all I see. I see so much of rising strong! For me, having the grit and resilience I need to face every challenge, comes from the Lord. He is my absolute strength and hope. It is He who carries me when I do not have the strength and it is He who strengthens me to rise strong. When I keep my eyes on Him, I know I can do this.
At the beginning of this school year, my husband and I faced some personal and work challenges. And on top of that, our daughter’s T1D management was almost breaking us. We were sent a link to a testimony and song that was so timely for us and as I listened to it, I cried out to God, knowing that even though we as a family face many challenges, it is well with my soul! And even though I pray every single day for God to heal my precious daughter, I stand strong with my love for God and my faith and hope in Him.
You know, no one truly sees the road that each of us travel. All of us face challenges. Sadly some of those around us will judge what they can see and hear, but I encourage you to love and to be kind, because we have never worn the shoes of another.
As you watch this clip, I realise your heart may not be broken daily by a chronic illness your child faces, but perhaps there’s something else you are facing that you are asking God for breakthrough. My encouragement to you is that even if your circumstance doesn’t change, you will place your faith and hope in the Lord Jesus Christ and He will strengthen you for all of your days.
